NY Times David Brooks Kicks off Fall Yale@Gateway Speaker Series

The Yale@Gateway Speaker Series at Gateway Community College (GCC) returned on Monday October 24, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. with David Brooks, distinguished practitioner in Grand Strategy and current New York Times Op-Ed columnist who spoke on the topic “Gateway to What?”

Formerly a senior editor at The Weekly Standard, and a contributing editor at Newsweek and the Atlantic Monthly, Brooks is currently a weekly commentator on “The Newshour with Jim Lehrer.” His articles have appeared in the The New Yorker, Forbes, the Washington Post, and The Public Interest. Brooks is the best-selling author of cultural commentary and bestseller Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There, and its sequel, On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) In the Future Tense. His most recent book is The Road to Character, published in 2015 has been lauded as “Elegant and lucid….a pitch perfect clarion call, issued not with preachy hubris but from a deep place of humility, for awakening to the greatest rewards of living…” - Maria Popova.

Brooks is a senior fellow at the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs at Yale University where he co-teaches “Studies in Grand Strategy”, a year-long seminar on moral thought and international affairs. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

The Yale@Gateway Series was co-created with GCC Business Professor Lorraine Li and series moderator, PBS Newshour’s Paul Solman, to expand opportunities for students at both institutions to gain a greater understanding of the role and relevance of economics in contemporary, everyday culture.
