Student Arrival Time & Location

  • Please arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Report to the Arena with your Commencement attire (cap, gown, and tassel and your Graduate Name Card). You will be directed to the Student Area by the Gateway Marshals and Webster Bank Arena Staff.
  • The Procession begins promptly at 10:30 a.m.


Guest Arrival Time

Guests will NOT be allowed into the Webster Bank Arena until 9:00 a.m. Guests will be allowed to enjoy the Concession Stands. Your guests should proceed directly to the Arena’s Main Entrance for their seats. Please ask your guests to allow enough time to be seated prior to the start of the ceremony. Arena policy is that all bags are subject to search. Additionally, there is no storage area to secure or store personal belongings. Let your guests know that the following items are strictly prohibited inside the arena:

  • Food                           
  • Baby strollers            
  • Beverages       
  • Gifts               
  • Helium balloons         
  • Flowers                      
  • Confetti          
  • Wrapped packages

Please refrain from tossing any objects during the graduation ceremony. Please silence your cell phones during the ceremony. To honor all graduates, we require a commitment from you and your guests to remain in your seats for the duration of the ceremony (approximately two hours). 



Free parking is available at the Housatonic Community College parking garage. Paid parking spaces, including parking for the handicapped, are available at the Arena. Student UPASS, allows you to have access to take Metro-North Railroad to the Webster Bank Arena. The Bridgeport Transportation Center is only a two-block walk from Webster Bank Arena.


Accessibility Needs

Webster Bank Arena is a fully accessible facility.  If any of your guest(s) require accessible seating due to a disability, please refer to the following website: or see an usher upon arrival.  Any graduating students needing accessible seating should contact Student Accessibilities Services at 203-285-2231 or or by Friday, May 8, 2020.


Graduate Name Cards

You will need to pick up your Graduate Name Card at the Graduation Fair. You must bring this card with you to the Graduation Ceremony. The purpose of the Name Card is to announce your name and your degree/certificate at the Graduation Ceremony. The Graduate Name Card also serves as the information card for the photographers at the ceremony. Graduates will have the option of purchasing photographs by filling out the back of the Name Card. However, there is no obligation.


Caps & Gowns

Caps and gowns are required for all graduation candidates. There is a fee plus tax to purchase the cap and gown ($34.00 + tax fee). If you are not able to attend any Graduation Fairs, you can still pick up your cap and gown at the Follett Bookstore starting Monday, April 13, 2020 through Wednesday, May 27, 2020.

Honor Cords

Honor cords will be distributed at the Arena prior to the ceremony to students who have honors 3.4 or higher.

Graduation Fair

During this time, graduates will be able to pick up their invitations and graduate name cards, pick up their cap and gown ($34.00 + tax fee), have portrait photographs taken, confirm graduation status, speak to a representative from Career Services, and sign up graduates who will require accessible seating due to a disability. A photo ID is required to pick up your tickets.

Graduation Fair 2020 Day/Time

Invitation Tickets

If you are not able to attend a Graduation Fair, you will be able to pick up your tickets in the Dean of Students’ Office, Room N220. A photo ID is required to pick up your tickets. Tickets are required for all guests, including small children.



A professional photographer will be available to take a portrait photographs at the Graduation Fair. The Graduate Name Card also serves as the information card for the photographer at the ceremony. Again, graduates will have the option of purchasing photographs by filling out the back of the Name Card. However, there is no obligation. Guests are not permitted in the aisles to take photographs during the Commencement Ceremony.




All graduates will receive a diploma cover on stage at Commencement. You may pick up your diploma in the Registrar’s Office, click here for the Registrar's Hours. Your student ID is required to pick up your diploma.
We anticipate that the diplomas for Spring 2020 Graduates will be available for pick up after July 2020, for Summer 2020 Graduates diplomas will be available to pick up in November 2020. Please be advised that you will need to turn in your student ID card at the time that you pick up your diploma. Diplomas will only be mailed based on written request to the Registrar Office together with your student ID card.

Awards Convocation

Awards Convocation will be held Thursday, May 7th, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. in Gateway Community College's Curran Community Room (N100).

Students receiving awards will be notified via their GCC email. The event is open to all students, faculty, and staff to attend and support our award recipients. For more information regarding the Awards Convocation, please contact Shelly Frosolone at (203) 285-2407

Graduation Rehearsal

There is no rehearsal for the 2020 graduation.
