Through ‘TechHire’ funding, you can receive exceptional free training from industry experts in the fields of Web Development, Web Design, Networking, and more at Gateway Community College!

Qualifications for the TechHire program are:

  • Must be a Connecticut Resident
  • Between the ages of 17-29
  • Under-employed or unemployed
  • Interested in a career in one of the many technology focused fields

The ‘TechHire’ initiative was created and adopted by the White House in recognition of substantial future growth in the technical economic sector and the surprising number of current job openings. The program allows qualified students to obtain ‘entry level’ skills at NO COST to participants who meet the qualifications listed above.

Gateway Community College is a participating educational institution in the TechHire program and has extensive technology courses. These courses include HTML5, CSS3, PHP, jQuery, MySQL, WordPress, CompTIA certification, Adobe Dreamweaver, and other web design skills.

This certificate prepares students for entry-level positions in the fields of help desk services and technical support. The courses within this certificate will provide students with the skills they need to understand both computer hardware and software, as well as provide technical support to end users. Those who enroll in this certificate will leave with A+ certification sponsored by CompTIA. This certification is an internationally recognized credential backed by major computer hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers, and publications. No experience in the computer field is necessary to enroll in this certificate. However, it is recommended that students be familiar with basic computer operation and navigation of an operating system, such as Windows XP.
DIGITAL MEDIA PUBLISHING CERTIFICATE This program, developed in partnership with Xerox Corporation, is designed to provide training and hands-on experience in graphic arts, and digital production printing technology. Students will be tested to become an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) in Adobe InDesign upon completion of program. The Print & Digital Media Publishing program is designed to build upon relevant backgrounds and enhance previous industry experience with the most up-to-date computer skills necessary in today's job market. The instruction is in a Macintosh-based environment with some cross training in IBM/Microsoft-compatible platforms.
NETWORK+ COMPTIA CERTIFICATE The Network+ Certification indicates technical competency in networking administration and support. Through lecture and hands-on training, students will learn basic networking skills and concepts that affect all aspects of networking, such as installing and configuring the TCP/IP client. This course helps students prepare for the Network+ Certification exam.
WEB DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE The Web Development Certificate is designed to teach ‘in demand’ web development skills, including PHP, MySQL, jQuery, HTML5, and CSS3. This program prepares students for professional web developer careers, including those who are interested in developing functional aspects of websites like database integration, programming, and other server-side components. Gain the skills to develop, debug, and maintain code on commercial websites, design, query, and optimize relational databases and utilize version control systems and Cloud computing resources.
WEB DESIGN CERTIFICATE The Web Design Certificate is designed for students, working adults, artists, and designers interested in exploring the expanding field of web design. The full course sequence provides the foundational skills required for those wishing to build website portfolios for personal and professional applications. Students with previous web design experience will also find current topics and new approaches to update their web design practices. Students will receive exam prep and a voucher to become an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) in Adobe Dreamweaver upon completion of program.
