Firefighter 1 & 2
Are you interested in a career in fire safety? Gateway Community College has the solution! Beginning Fall 2014, Gateway will offer a brand new 1-year college credit certificate program in Firefighting 1 & 2 Certification. Students will be able to:
Obtain EMT and CT Fire Fighter 1 & 2 training for certifications
Prepare for the standard municipal fire department civil service application exam
Receive assistance with locating employment opportunities
Receive support obtaining firefighter equipment
Note: There are Medical and physical requirements for program enrollment
Firefighters control and extinguish fires or respond to emergency situations where life, property, or the environment is at risk. Duties may include fire prevention, emergency medical service, extricating trapped individuals , hazardous material response, and search and rescue.
EMTs assess injuries, administer emergency medical care, and provide disaster assistance. They also transport injured or sick persons to medical facilities.
