Gateway to College

Pathway to a High School Diploma & Connection to College

Do you want to go to college, but aren’t sure how to get there? Gateway to College is a unique dual enrollment opportunity for students who either have not experienced success in the traditional high school setting or are looking for a new opportunity to excel while still in high school or home school. Gateway to college students earn their high school diploma while earning free college credits toward an associate degree or certificate at Gateway Community College.

Who is eligible to be a Gateway to College Student?

Students who should consider Gateway to College:

  • Have not earned a high school diploma (includes currently enrolled students), off track to complete their high school diploma
  • Are at least 16, no older than 21
  • Live in New Haven, CT
  • Are motivated and willing to work hard

What are our expectations? Gateway is rigorous. Students take a mix of Gateway to college and college level course load, with classes that match their high school requirements, and career interests. They attend classes in the Fall and Spring. Gateway to college applicants need the maturity to handle this rigorous coursework and the rights and responsibilities of college life. Attendance is a key component of success, and students may be withdrawn from the program if they are not attending regularly.
