Students from the Gateway Community College Exercise Science and Wellness program held a winter hat and mitten drive during November to benefit New Reach, the largest provider of family shelter and family support housing in Connecticut.

The students set up collection boxes at the building entrances and collected over 130 hats and 82 pairs of gloves along with 19 scarves, 8 coats, winter boots and snow pants.

"This generosity helped keep people in New Haven a lot warmer this holiday season," said professor Todd Degree, who teaches the exercise science courses. "New Reach inspires independence for those affected by homelessness and poverty through a continuum of housing and support using the most innovative and progressive methods."
