The popular C.O.O.K. series will continue on Wednesday, Nov. 12, with “Chefs in Concert.” This event will offer guests a fascinating – and delicious! – “behind-the-scenes” tour of Gateway’s Culinary Center, including the bake shop; commercial kitchen; teaching kitchen; and the student-run Café Vincenzo, which features a staged demo kitchen and dining room. Seven chefs, a local vintner and Gateway Culinary students will delight your palate with delicious tapas, breads, dessert and local wine pairings! Tickets cost $100 per person.

Just as talented musicians are performing artists, so, too, are chefs, and “Chefs in Concerts” will bring together some of Greater New Haven’s most talented and passionate culinary artists to perform together for your gastronomic pleasure!

You will begin your evening with a stop in Café Vincenzo to enjoy a glass of wine from a Connecticut vineyard. This is your springboard for visits to various stations within the Culinary Center. You’ll watch as our chefs prepare delicious tapas, bake fragrant breads, and decorate beautiful desserts for your eating pleasure. You can enjoy your food “on the move” between the kitchens, or return to Café Vincenzo to eat at leisure – and perhaps imbibe in another glass of wine!

Featured chefs are: Leonardo Carreno, co-owner of Bistro Mediterranean & Tapas Bar; Alex Morales, chef at Mambo Cocina Latina; Mark Petonito, owner of Petonito’s Pastry Shop; Avi Szapiro, owner/chef of Rioa; Dave McCoart, owner/operator of Sage American Grill & Oyster Bar; Cristina Chang Bryant, co-owner of Sweepea: Real Food to Go; Tony Marchitto, partner/chef of Temple Grill; and Gateway’s own Culinary students.  Wine pairings will be offered by Margaret Ruggiero, winemaker for Paradise Hills Vineyard.

About the C.O.O.K. series
Each C.O.O.K. presentation takes place in Gateway’s Café Vincenzo, Gateway’s demonstration kitchen and dining room. Each featured “C.O.O.K.” shows how some of his or her signature dishes are prepared, cooked, garnished and served; shares valuable “tricks of the trade,” and demonstrates how to use commonplace and exotic ingredients in the home kitchen. Guests enjoyed a pre-event reception and book-signing, a delicious dinner prepared by Gateway’s Culinary Arts students from the chefs’ own recipes, and wine parings to complement the evening’s featured cuisine.
Wells Fargo, a generous supporter of the Foundation and many of its special events, is serving as presenting sponsor of the 2014 C.O.O.K. series. People’s Bank is also serving as a sponsor of Chefs in Concert, the fourth and final C.O.O.K. event of this year’s series.

Past C.O.O.K. chefs have included Jacques Pépin; local restaurateurs Jean Pierre Vuillermet and Claire Criscuolo; Jane and Michael Stern, authors of the “Road Food” series and “500 Things to Eat Before It’s Too Late”; Adrienne Kane, the “Pie Lady”; and Amy Green and Mark Rosati, top executives with the international Shake Shack franchise.
