Monday, November 16, 2015

Jeanne White-Ginder was the guest speaker at The Legacy of Ryan White event held Thursday, Nov. 19 at Gateway Community College. White-Ginder is the mother of Ryan Wayne White, who became the national poster child of HIV/Aids at a time when very little was known about the disease. Thirteen year old Ryan, a hemophiliac, was diagnosed with AIDS on December 17, 1984, after contracting the disease from a contaminated blood treatment.

White-Ginder sharec both her and her son’s experience living with AIDS and the discrimination that they experienced from the community while fighting to keep Ryan in school.

It is the mission of Gateway Community College and the Unified Pride Alliance club to educate all people about HIV/AIDS. For more information on The Legacy of Ryan White event, please contact the Unified Pride Alliance club at GW-GSA@gwcc.commnet.edu.
