GCC Walks Against Hunger

Thursday, May 4, 2017

On Sunday, April 23, the Gateway Community College (GCC) Social Sciences Department organized and lead the GCC Team in this year’s Connecticut Food Bank’s Greater New Haven Walk Against Hunger. The GCC team, which included faculty, staff, family members, and students, met at Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven and followed a 2.5-mile route. The team raised more than $700 to fight hunger.

The Walk Against Hunger helps the Connecticut Food Bank provide meals to people in need across the state. More than 650 local food assistance programs rely on the Connecticut Food Bank to provide food to serve their community and, through this network, enough food is distributed to make 50,000 meals a day. According to the Connecticut Food Bank website, 1 in 6 children struggles with hunger.
