GCC Launches New Intercollegiate New Venture Challenge Class for Intersession

Gateway Community College is offering a new, innovative and intercollegiate business course over winter break that will teach students how to launch a business and more. The 3 week, 3 credit course, entitled New Venture Challenge, consists of two campus sessions on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014 5:30-8:30pm and Monday, January 5, 2015, 5:30-8:30pm; online coursework and discussion using Blackboard, and mandatory participation in a 3-day Launch Weekend on January 9-11 at the Clarion Conference Center in East Windsor.

Participants in the New Venture Challenge course will work alongside students from Central Connecticut State, Quinnipiac University, Southern Connecticut State, University of Bridgeport and Western Connecticut State University on intercollegiate, interdisciplinary projects intended to immerse students in the lean launch methodology for creating a business venture.  Teams create business models around student products and services, validate market demand hypotheses and design minimum viable products. 

While working on their launches, participating students will have the added benefit of meeting successful entrepreneurs, investors, attorneys and gain access to other support resources for entrepreneurs.

The New Venture Challenge course is team-taught by leading entrepreneurship professors in Connecticut colleges and universities.  Tuition for the three-credit course at Gateway Community College is $549 plus course materials which include the textbook, Launching a New Venture. Fifth Ed. Entrepreneurship Foundation and hotel for 2 nights at the Clarion Conference Center and five meals during Launch Weekend (Friday dinner and breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday).  The total price for the course materials package is $225 for a single occupancy room, $169 per person for a double.  Course materials may be purchased prior to the start of the first class at www.NewVentureChallenge.org
