In 2015 Gateway Community College and the Gateway Community College Foundation joined forces to establish a program called the Gateway Executive Mentoring (GEM) that would give select GCC students access to corporate mentors. The GEM program consists of  a volunteer mentoring network dedicated to enhancing the education and career development of GCC students.

Qualified GCC students are paired with professional executives who give their mentees individualized assistance with career planning, resume preparation, job shadowing, and networking opportunities, that the program creators hope will lead to lasting friendships.

Students who participate in the GEM program are required to keep their grades up and to work diligently in their pursuit of building a personal network that will help them in their choses career field. Participants must sign a student mentor agreement and agree to the expectations of the program.

Professionals interested in mentoring a Gateway Community College student are invited to contact Mary Ellen Cody, dean of Development and Community Partnerships at mcody@gatewayct.edu, and students interested in participating in the GEM program are invited to contact Kellie Byrd Danso, Director of Director of Student Engagement and Career Development at  kdanso@gatewayct.edu
