Offering informed feedback, the Writing Center's tutors conference with individuals on their college-level reading and writing assignments at any stage of their composing processes; a conference's purpose is to enhance a writer's ability to produce any essay for any course across the curriculum before students submit them to their ultimate audience, the professors who grade them.
In a 45-minute conference, tutors will, in collaboration with a student, identify, prioritize, and address the issues a particular assignment's draft presents. Tutors can coach students in narrowing a topic, finding a focus, organizing ideas, developing content, and improving style and correctness; they can also clarify APA and MLA guidelines for embedding and citing sources. Each conference should meet the individual composing needs of students and introduce re-writing and editing skills students can practice independently.
The Writing Center is located in Room S214. Hours are by appointment. Walk-ins are accepted on availability. Call (203) 285-2245 or firstname.lastname@example.org
