A message from Dorsey L. Kendrick, Gateway Community College President
Dear Colleagues: Today, we mourn the loss of lives for the people of Paris and for all humanity. There seems to be so much unrest, and despair in the world, but we must never lose hope, for there is always light at the end of ever tunnel. I believe that we need to exist with the spirit of forgiveness. We should never let our joy for life and for humanity be stolen.
I learned something once that I think is still relevant today which says: We need to remove the shackles of hate, and replace them with hope. “Hatred and bitterness paralyze life, love releases it. Hatred confuses life, love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life, love illuminates it.”(Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) I choose to love. I choose joy!
As we begin our celebration of the holiday season, remember to give a special hug to someone important to you, or a special act of kindness to someone in need. We cannot control the world, but we can show kindness toward those whom we touch in our little corner of it.
Finally, let us pause and reflect on the things that bind us all together, and pray, in whatever form we do, realizing that “none of us is free, until each of us is free.” And that all of us are brothers and sisters in spirit and in love.
